WIMBLEDON VILLAGE 2022

The brief for this project was simple, the client wanted to build the best  performing cinema possible!  We started with an empty shell measuring 12m x 9m and the room had to be built up from that.  A dedicated projection room for the Barco Freya + was essential and that allowed SHC to house all of the cinema racks in an air conditioned purpose built room.  The screen had to be as large as possible and the solution from DT screens measures 4.8m wide in a 1.78 ratio format allowing for a constant height set-up with horizontal masking.

The client had always used Meridian Audio products and wanted to utilise a fully digital signal path with Meridian speakers and subwoofers. The room structure was built using 4” x 2” timbers to create the ideal framework for acoustic insulation / dispersion and dedicated pockets to house the immense Meridian DSP speaker range. The audio package in this room was designed, installed and calibrated to form an 11.8.8 Dolby Atmos system.Eight DSP750 digital active architectural in-wall loudspeakers pack a significant audio punch along each side and rear wall, whilst a further nine DSP750s power the Left, Centre and Right in a High Performance Array configuration. Three Meridian Audio DSP730 digital active architectural in-wall loudspeakers were installed for the front left, centre and right height channels with an additional five DSP730s fitted to deliver in the overhead effects channels. Eight Meridian DSW600 digital active in-wall subwoofers give unbelievable depth, bass and resonance exclusively in the low-frequency effect (LFE) channel. Through clever design and placement this room has the necessary speaker layouts to accommodate all modern sound codecs such as Dolby Atmos, DTS-X and Auro 3D all decoded and masterfully handled by a Trinnov Altitude 32 Audio Processor. The exceptional picture is provided by a Barco Freya+ DCI projector, featuring the latest in native 4K DLP® chipsets from Texas Instruments and the acclaimed Barco Alchemy ICMP (Integrated Cinema Media Processor). Installed on an XL Side Mirror Mount to save space in the cinema’s rear projection and rack room, the Freya+ offers great contrast and a wider colour gamut at 13,500 ANSI Lumens from three lasers. Every last ounce of performance is extracted from this unit by partnering it with a fully ISF and DCI calibrated Lumagen Radiance Pro Video Scaler.

SURREY HILLS 2021

Originally built as a double garage, converted into an Air BnB room and reconverted by us to a modern and colourful cinema room. Our team built this room in only 6 weeks transforming this room to be a usable cinema room, or media room with bar for client entertainment. The brief was to allow the client to watch a film with the family, sport with friends or music events (such as Glastonbury) with clients. The client requested that as much of the equipment was hidden as much as physically possible. The 3m wide screen at the front is perforated to allow the sound to travel out from the Procella front channels. The Dolby Atmos speakers (7.2.2) are all hidden behind the perforated purple stretched fabric walls. A Sony 4K HDR projector delivers an impressive and immersive image onto the 3M wide DT screen. Lutron RA 2 wireless dimmers and shades completed the cinematic experience, allowing the client to completely control ambient and natural light at the press of a button. All of the control were brought together on one RTI-T1B rechargeable remote. Finally, the Front Row cinema seats were fully motorised to allow the client to relax in comfort during any chosen movie night.

Equipment:

• 11 Audio Channels powered by Arcam and Procella P6’s, P1’s and P15 subwoofers
• Arcam Amplification and Power Amplification
• Sony 4K HDR Projection
• 3m Wide Display Technologies Screen
• FrontRow Custom Seating

A stunning Art Deco themed room that SHC built entirely from scratch. What you see now was originally an empty grey concrete box! Our team spent several months transforming this room into one of the best performing home-cinemas in the country. The impressive features are enhanced with the integration of a 5m wide screen and luxurious motorised seating for 10 guests. All of the latest sound and picture formats are achievable using a staggering 30 x Meridian Digital DSP speakers! This creates an unbelievably immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience that puts you in the heart of the film action with breath-taking Dolby surround sound. A Barco laser projector punches a 4K HDR image of unimaginable clarity. Lutron Homeworks QS was the only solution for subtle control of all the lighting features. Controlling such an impressive room was made simple thanks to a fully integrated Crestron control system that the client can operate from their cinema seat using a Crestron “touchscreen” remote control or phone

WENTWORTH 2018

A multi-purpose media / cinema room was created in this luxurious basement space. The brief given to SHC was slightly unusual in that the client not only wanted to have a high performing cinema room, but they also wanted to provide a secondary space at the back of the room for guest entertaining and most importantly a cocktail bar. Working with Louise Bradley Interior Design our solution subtly hid the cinema elements when you first enter the room. The screen is hidden by clever sliding joinery panels, and the projector is housed in a motorised lift to disappear entirely from view. The bar was offset to the right-hand side of the cinema room allowing a relaxation space that also gave terrific views out to the pool and spa areas. The Wentworth cinema system comprises of a 7.1 speaker layout to surround the listener with high quality audio reproduction whilst the Sony 4K projector provides a clear and immersive 4K viewing experience. Lutron controlled lighting and a simple Crestron automation system compliments the room allowing the client to control both the lighting and start a film all from their phone, tablet or Crestron remote.

Equipment:

• Arcam Audio processing and amplification
• Triad 7.1 Speaker System
• Future Automation Projector Lift
• Sony 4k Projector
• 3m Wide Display Technologies Screen

We converted a large, formal reception room in this country manor house to bring together a touch of Hollywood and quirkiness at the client’s request! Designed with a specific brief of ‘celebrating cinema’, eye-catching yet historic cinema memorabilia surrounds the “projector-film ripple” feature on the ceiling. This is one of many rooms where we were asked to incorporate both a large 4K OLED TV screen as well as a motorised projector screen for a 4K projector. The reason? This room can be used with all the lights on and curtains open in the day for the family watching the TV. Then when the curtains are closed (or night falls) the family can switch to the “big screen” experience. Our client is one of a few who absolutely love to see all of the equipment in the room. Working with their interior design team, we made features of the speakers, amplification and TV so that the equipment was accentuated and “shown-off” as part of the room design. Lutron lighting control allowed the room to go from a fun, bright space to the complete opposite. From one button press the room becomes moody, romantic yet cinematic! The clever integration of a Crestron in-wall touchscreen and handheld remote simplified the room control with seamless switching from projector screen to TV and back again.

Equipment:

• Datasat audio processing and amplification
• Procella 7.3 Speaker System
• Sony 4k Projector
• 3.5m Wide Screen Research Motorised Screen

The brief for this modern house was to create a slightly formal, yet stylish cinema room with seating for seven guests…but we also had to give the viewer sumptuous comfort! How? Front Row motorised seating! This SHC room incorporates a clever ‘picture-masking’ screen often used in professional cinemas to change the aspect ratio (shape) of the image depending on the film you are watching . A multichannel sound system from Procella provides a punchy yet impressive audio soundtrack that fully immerses the viewer in an action sequence or puts you in the crowd on Centre Court at Wimbledon! Complemented by the razor-sharp and bright image from the JVC 4K projector, the room is a high-performance entertainment powerhouse! Control of all of the rooms dimmable lighting from Lutron is handled by a Crestron control system operated from the owners iPhone and iPad.
